a little splash of context
–– v0.9 update ––
Today I’ve uploaded a slightly updated version of the game today after talking with Ben.
Whilst we thought the tone of the previous version was spot on, it did lack the acknowledgement and our awareness that many people around the world experience resource scarcity in similar and much more brutal ways than the ways in which SCREW THAT might get players to experience.
Our intention is to shed light on what we take for granted in the Global North, as well as help us build different relationships with essential infrastructure. It’s a cliche that “having kids changes you”, but with my daughter turning 3 soon and my heightened awareness of how close to societal collapse we are, I have found myself asking “what would I do if this broke”, “what would we do if we lost access” and “what are the skills and experiences that might help strengthen our family and community in the face of unknowable futures.”.
The intention is not a game dripped in irony, social commentary, or some kind of piss take. The intention is that through play we can generate knowledge of our surroundings and experiences lost.
