Orientation
A downloadable game
Orientation is solo strollplaying game (in zine format) with light multiplayer elements about a world without access to big tech maps.
Inspired by spines' a strollplaying game trio pack this encourages players to go outside and build a different relationship with the space around them.
Play Orientation and learn new ways of navigating that might become useful in a future where big tech maps become inaccessible.
What would you do if the maps apps on your phone stopped working? Would you know how to get around? How would you create your own maps or document how to move through space?
The Navigation prompts in Orientation take inspiration from racing and driving games, as well as mapping techniques like "tulips" from rally navigation.
AUTHOR NOTE
As a "collapse aware" person (someone who is conscious of the systemic collapse of ecology, democracy, society, modernity) I find myself spending time thinking about the skills I might need when things decay, fall apart or when access is taken away from us. Orientation is a response to me wanting to share with friends, family and community my thinking about orienteering, map archiving, and communicating breaking from the dependance on digital and online mapping apps.
